Nic Marks, a statistician from the UK, presented a TED talk in July on what he’s coined The Happy Planet Index. The index rates countries based on the happiness of their inhabitants in relation to their consumption of the earth’s resources. Not surprising, Costa Rica is the happiest nation on the planet on this index, producing 99% of its electricity with sustainable resources and home to citizens who live longer lives than North Americans.
